WAY OT. Pocket radio
When we attend sporting events at my wife's alma mater, we like to listen to the play by play on a pocket radio. My 'radio' is actually my old Blackberry phone. They never blocked the radio access on phones they made. Cell phones are just FM two-way radios even though they now use digital signals. My Phone gives wonderful signal and no static.
She has a Sony made pocket radio that doesn't connect well to radio signal anymore and is mostly static. I would love to get a used Blackberry, but they are now somewhat of a collector's item and sell for over $175. We want to replace her radio with a digital tune FM pocket radio. What radio do you use that has great reception and doesn't break the bank? |
Maybe check out what is on offer these days from Sangean?

Are those sports broadcasts made over the alma mater's college radio station?
Most of those college radio stations stream over the internet. Is it possible you can listen over your phone with earbuds, headphones, and the like? |

I have had good luck with Sangean products.

I have a Sangean in the basement that I use for internet radio. I guess you'd call it a tabletop or portable radio. It's slow to start, slow to find my wifi network, slow to find stations... you get the idea. But once it connects to everything it works fine, so I can't complain too much.
I'd suggest looking at what ccrane has to offer as well. I've had some of theirs in the past and they were also good. |
If you are going old school, go all the way and make it analog.

I had an iPod nano at one point that had an FM tuner.

Another alternative to the Blackberry is an old Nokia Symbian-based smartphone (many models). You could even throw a pre-paid SIM into it for emergencies. |
I listen to the radio while walking and at the gym on a SanDisk Clip Jam. It has excellent reception, but only FM.
