When I was a poor grad student, I bought a pair of wheels from him. He was offering then at a great price, but when I showed up at his house to pick them up, he asked for even less than his listing price without any attempt by me to haggle. A small act of kindness, but enough that I remember it more than a decade later.

I didn't know him well or correspond a lot with him, but over the past few years I was lucky to talk with him some through Paceline. I was pretty sure that he was an anesthesiologist due to his handle: gasman. I retired as clinical manager of respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostics at Winchester Med. Ctr. at 70 years old in 9/2022, so gasman made perfect sense as a handle for an anesthesiologist. From my interaction with him, he seemed like a great guy and I wish his family well.

He definitely seemed like quite a guy, what a journey he had.

I only knew him as a poster and moderator here and I remember exchanging a few PMs with him. As others have mentioned, he was always a voice of calm and reason when tempers would flare up here.

Thank you for posting his inspiring obituary. I knew that he was an anesthesiologist, but I had no idea how full and many-sided his life was, and how much he loved the great outdoors. Despite being retired from his regular job, he had so much left to offer the world. RIP.

How sad..I just saw this. He helped me immensely when I was going thru some heart issues. Very sad, I hope his rest is peaceful.

My sincere condolences to his wife and family.

Ugh. Same age as me, born in '54, I turned 70 in March.

Remember when 70 seemed old? I'm sorry, but I don't consider myself old, and gasman definitely showed everybody that 70ish is not old. Sure, you're oldER, but not old.

RIP, gasman.
